Trust and transparency
Editorial and Evidence Standards
Crohn Zone exists to give people living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis information they can actually trust. This page explains how our content is created, sourced, and kept accurate, and how we keep what we publish independent from who advertises with us.

Who we are
Crohn Zone is a patient-led resource for the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) community. Our content is created by people who live with IBD or care for someone who does, working alongside writers and contributors who specialize in health topics. We write in plain language for patients and caregivers, not for clinicians.
How we research and write
Every health article begins with the published evidence. We prioritize sources in this order:
- Peer-reviewed research and systematic reviews indexed in PubMed and published in medical journals
- Clinical guidelines and position statements from recognized bodies such as the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, the American Gastroenterological Association, and equivalent international organizations
- Regulatory and government sources such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for drug approvals and safety information
- Lived patient experience, which we present clearly as experience rather than as clinical evidence
We link to our sources. Most articles include a numbered references section so you can read the original studies yourself and judge the evidence for what it is.
How we keep content accurate
- We cite the strength and size of the evidence, including when research is early, small, or mixed. We do not overstate findings.
- We distinguish between what is proven, what is promising, and what is unproven or anecdotal.
- Articles carry a published date and, where updated, a revision date. We periodically revisit articles as treatments and evidence change.
- Every health article carries a medical disclaimer. Crohn Zone is educational and is never a substitute for personalized advice from your own healthcare team.
What we will not do
- We do not invent statistics, studies, or quotes.
- We do not promise cures or guaranteed outcomes for any diet, supplement, or treatment.
- We do not present advertising or affiliate products as medical recommendations.
Editorial independence and advertising
Crohn Zone may carry advertising and may earn affiliate commissions, and this support helps keep our content free. Our editorial content is independent of that support:
- Advertisers and sponsors never review, approve, or influence our articles before publication.
- Advertising is clearly labeled and kept visually separate from editorial content.
- We only accept advertising relevant to the IBD community, and an advertising relationship never earns favorable coverage.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. See our Privacy Policy.
